Looking for Books

default-16x9

I have been trying to find a book that gives practical advice/information on how to develop and evaluate a training program (from scratch), and have not had much success. There are a number of books listed on the Amazon site, but most are of limited availability and will take weeks to arrive.

Can anyone recommend a book that I can get access to quickly? Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated.

  1. Have you searched the TrainingZONE reviews section?
    Kathleen,
If you go to the reviews section of the site (within the community area) and search on develop training, you will get a list of associated books that have been independently reviewed by a TrainingZONE member.
The search results are extensive but there should be at least one or two publications that catch your interest.
    Hope that helps
    Regards

  2. Training evaluation
I have would recommend you use ‘Training Needs Analysis and Evaluation’ by Frances and Roland Bee when evaluating your training. It is a very comprehensive read and can be used as a practical guide. You can pick it up from any good bookstore such as Waterstones and Blackwell’s, or if you are a CIPD member and you are registered to their website you can order them that way with a 10% discount. They usually arrive within 24-48 hours of ordering. I hope this helps.

  3. How to Measure Training Success
I really recommend the following book.

    How to Measure Training Success
    Jack Phillips, Ron Stone
    Price: £29.99
    ISBN: 0071387927

The great thing if you need it ASAP is that it is available in e-book format from Amazon. Click on the link that appears on the page for the hardback copy.

This book does a great job of summarising this evaluation guru’s 10-step model. It’s clear, easy to follow and takes you from start to finish through the process.

I have found that ordering from the US website (Amazon.com) and specifying the middle shipping option (expedited international shipping) gets the books to me in about a week.

  5. Training in Practice
by Stephen Truelove is a great reference book for me and is used as a suggested title for the CIPD certificate in training practice
