Hi I have just taken the leap into self-employment as an NVQ assessor. I am an experienced assessor/verifier and have experience in the following fields: Administration, Customer Service, Key Skills and the A1 and V1 awards. Anyone got any advice as to where to get contacts etc? I am willing to travel! Thanks for your time! Jo

Have you tried JHP Training ? Not sure where you are based but they franchise offices UK wide. I use their local office as always a great service.
It might also be worth finding our what funding your local LSC has for NVQs and then trace their providers – always a deperate needs for assessors to keep up with demand!

Assessment opportunities
Jo – You may wish to contact your local LSC (Learning & Skills Council) or look them up on the internet, http://www.lsc.org.uk Find their approved supplier list and contact them for assessment work. Alternatively, contact local colleges who may be able to help.
NVQ Assessment
I tried this route on retirement, admittedly focusing only on Customer Service and Library and Information Service work, the latter being my occupational specialism.
After many fruitless contacts, I eventually transferred my skills to ILM and am now an External Assessor/Verifier with the Institute, focusing on VRQs.
I wish you luck with NVQ work, which was beginning to dry up for external people when I was searching four years ago. Colleges, in particular, seemed to want to keep everything in-house.

Have you tried your local college as they often want people to work as freelance assessors. Also, try the Awarding Bodies such as OCR they often post vacancies for freelance assessors on their sites. Alternatively contact their head office number.
