We currenlty have two separate systems - one for appraisals and another for training administration. What do other organisations do to link course booking requests arising from appraisals to their training admin system? How do we balance the need for approval and prioritisation with the desire to reduce paperwork?

Faced a similar situation
I faced the same problem in a previous company but we were able to develop a training ‘portal’ that sat over both the appraisal and training systems. It was pretty slick – and enable us to see training requirements by quarter (thus helping the planning process). I’d be happy to discuss.
Linking appraisal feedback to your learning and development reso
We have linked client’s appraisal systems (often 360) with training resources by using automatically generated spider diagrams (they are brilliant at highlighting gaps in capability). These charts are then used to search your database of learning resources and then displays them in order of priority. If the participant wishes to book a training course or workshop the request is then sent to their line manager (and training manager) via email. This e-mail would contain an overview of the training initiative, with assocated costs and logistics. As this can also contain a justification for the training including the relevancy rating from the spider diagram, approval is simplified. By undertaking this all online, and capturing the approval to your system, savings on paperwork can also be significantly improved.
I hope this helps.
