Moving into Soft Skills training

default-16x9

I'm a qualified trainer CIPD CTP with over 5 years experience in training and management. Although I've delivered a number of workshops including team building days, TTT and coaching etc (mainly for my own staff) my CV is heavily technically biased.

I believe my success to date has been because of my understanding of emotions, rapport, perception ... in management and delivery. Can anyone suggest ways of moving from that technical arena to a more soft skills role?

The perception that you have is bang on.

Peoples performance is very closely linked to the way they feel and the way they feel is normally directly attributable to the way that they are managed.

You said “my success to date has been because of my understanding of emotions, rapport, perception … in management and delivery” and I absolutely agree that this is the only way to manage, unfortunately we are still in the minority.

It is only through an understanding of the way that our behaviour can affect the way that the workforce feel about what they do that allows us to make that link between the managers behaviour and the workforces performance.

The problem that you face is that “Soft Skills Training” is not mainstream and you don’t have any frame work on which to assess the effectiveness of the training before you take it.

I can only suggest that you read the book “Breaking the Mould” available free on the web at http://btmthebook.blogspot.com/

All the stories and all the performance improvements were made using soft skills.

When you have read it you will be able to assess whether the courses of soft skills training you have found will provide you with the skills or tools that will have the sort of affect that you have read in the stories.

If you are unable to find anything suitable let me know and I will see if I can help.
