I'm newley appointed as a training manager in a small private psychiatric hospital (100beds) and there is minimal lifting & handling training at present.
Does anyone know of a comprehensive package or approach that might provide basic coverage for most staff?

Moving and handling training resources and guidelines
There are commercial training materials available, Google for patient handling training pack.

Also, the Moving and Handling Advisor in your local NHS trust will be able to advise you on training strategies/manual handling equipment/policy/risk assessment etcetera, and may even be willing to provide training.
A Google for patient handling training will locate individuals and companies who offer this training.

For an off the shelf training package that includes video, try http://www.bvs.co.uk – we’ve used them for early years stuff and found them useful, they specialise in health & social care.

I have been trainer in my place of work for 10 yrs. I update with the NHS and struggle to make the updates useful & interesting.The time and space are limited .

Regarding making the updates useful & interesting, have you considered asking them to bring examples of moving and handling challenges from their own experience which could form the basis of a problem-solving workshop/update?
