Ex ITD members generally seem unhappy with the whole IPM-CIPD experience. But what is it about CIPD that is unsatisfactory, and what would they seek in a new professional body for trainers. What about the opposition - ITOL and AMED for example?
In short, what did the ITD give us that CIPD is not providing?

Don’t know about the ITD
I don’t know about the ITD but I do know what I felt that the CIPD (and to an extent the other training bodies out there) don’t provide.
I would expect anybody who is going to certify trainers to do an individual TNA to start not assume that they need to pass some form of introduction to training qualification before facing the meat and bones of their development.
I would expect options from e-learning/blended learning/classroom learning. I would expect actual tests of a trainers ability – such as real on the job observation rather than being asked to deliver shoddy fifteen minute training sessions on making a cup of tea etc.
I would expect the bodies to recognise that there is a difference between IT training and soft-skills and other types of training and to offer customised content to those paths.
I’d expect recognition that those in training are not all intending to manage the function or even involved in the whole training cycle and for a modular approach that allows a design professional or a delivery professional (or any other specialisation) to achieve qualfication in their speciality.
I would expect a rather better reception to feedback than I’ve seen on the CIPD website and through my own CIPD authorised training provider.
In short I’d expect the body to best reflect the training industry and not be a “one size fits all” provider.
At the moment I feel the best value I would get from any membership body is the value I get from training zone where I can get help from a variety of professionals with any issues I have and at any time. And best of all it doesn’t cost me anything. But… (I hope I’m not giving any one ideas here) I would be willing to pay for this resource unlike the other bodies out there.
More depth please
George, these kind of questions dont come from nowhere. In what capacity are you interested please?
Thanks
No voice and limited interest
Cant speak fro ITD but I joined CIPD after completing Cert in Training Practice about 5 years ago. I’ve been very disillusioned, a magazine with only 2 pages of Training info, I dont want to attend their meetings which seem to be the only method of interacting or having a voice in the CIPD and no real impetus to service the needs of trainers who say…we are swamped by HR professionals and how can I develope as a training specialist without having to study loads of HR thats not relevant to my job or where I want to go.
By HR and for HR thats my take.

As an ex CIPD member I can’t access that link!
My interest is in part that CIPD is a major source of annoyance to the vast majority of Ex ITD people I meet, and there doesn’t yet seem to be an alternative professional body for training and development specialists who do not want to do the HR bit.
