I run a course where we explain Edward De Bono's Six thinking hat theory.
It usually goes down fairly well but I don't have an exercise to run for the delegates to 'see how it works'. It seems too simple to just mock up a meeting so I was wondering, does anyone out their have a good exercise that they run to bring this theory alive?

Thinking Hats
Hi
One of the good ones in his book which I have seen used to great effect with jobseekers in the 18 to 24 range,is based on the question:
If dogs could talk, what would change
The group discussions and subsequent feedback, usually results in all the hats being discussed and placed in context
Good luck

Hats & Viagra
Hi Lee
I use the topic “should viagra be sold in supermarkets” and ask the groups to come up with a decision in 5 minutes. (no more explanation)
Then I explain that Decisions Making is a mix of facts, emotion, beliefs and these can paralyse good decision making. Let’s try separating them out …
They repeat the process using : (I act as the blue hat telling them when to change and use a flip to remind them what to do)
1m.15s Yellow hat – logical positive feasibility/benefits/advantages/savings
1m.15s Black = logical negative. Dangers
.45 White – neutral – what are the facts. Question. Fill gaps.
1.15 Green – creative. What are the alternatives. Beware that black may come back!
.30 Red – your feelings/hunches/intuition.
Then we reflect to see if there is a difference.
It usually takes 20 mins for the whole thing.
