Business justification for training
Hi Helen
Different types of training can demonstrate different impacts on businesses.
For example one removals organisation I worked with reduced their insurance losses (damage claims) by over £100K due to £12K worth of training – through appropriate packing and manual handling techniques.
Technical training can be easy to demonstrate the business case. Soft skills may be harder.
For the most upto date statistics on this look at the IiP website.
The justification will vary upon the type of training and target audience you are addressing.
One construction company i am working with is aiming to reduce the number of accidents and near-misses through training staff & suncontractors in operational & safety matters – they are pushing for 100% of people working on a site to have an appropriate NVQ (including subcontractors) A stretch goal but they are taking significant action.
Each industry will have their own unique needs and justificatiuons as a business tool.
Hope this helps
Mike

Hopefull that is enough to get you started.
Think carefully about the sector that the job is in and position as many examples in that context as you can.
Remember to take the culture of the sector and organisation into account as much as you can – i.e. if public sector focus on value add & cost effectivness – if private sector focus on efficiency, customer care & profit.
I wish you well with the interview
Mike
