My personal favourate is sitting the group round in a cicle with one chair fewer than the number of people and and asking for anyone that has...... to stand up and try to find a new chair. it's a good get to know you and also gets people up and moving after lunch. it's amazing what information people are prepared to give out. What does everyone else use?

My favourite is “silent birthdays” where they all stand up and rearrange themselves around the table by their month of birth, but they are not allowed to speak to each other or write anything down. Therefore they need to make signs with their hands to arrange themselves and 9 times out of ten, they get it right.

Hi Stuart,
Give everyone a piece of A4 paper and ask them to write their initials on it. Then gather up all the pieces of paper and arrange them on the floor all muddled up, now put 1 blank paper in the middle.
Ask everyone to stand on someone else’s initials (and not on the blank one!)
now, they have to get back to their own piece of paper without jumping, going diagonally, or just swapping places, they can use the blank.
Its interesting to watch, you can see who is the team player, or who just looks out for themselves and who takes control and gets everyone working together.
Great to use after lunch and get everyone moving!!!

I’ve become a convert to the short course – maximum of 3 hours. You don’t need energisers! At Capgemini we brand them as ‘Expresstrain’ and have them on managing people, writing, speaking, recruiting, time management etc etc. They’re hugely popular.

The Wright Family
Search on the internet for an energiser called The Wright Family. Basically the students stand in a circle, and each have a pen or some other article. You then read them a story which contains the words left and right many times. When you say the word right, they pass the pen to to right. When you say the word left, they pass the pen to the left. It always goes down really well, and always gets a laugh.
