I have over six years experience working in training & development in the public & voluntary sector, and have already achieved my CTP qualification. I am now looking into doing some freelance work with small businesses and community groups, with the hope of setting up my own training consultancy business. Could anyone who has been down this route, give my any advice or information on how to make the first step.
thanks

going solo as a consultant
Hi Natasha
Congratulations on making the decision to join the world of freelance.
Rather than repeat advice, have a look:
1) in the TZ archives (lots of stuff here)
2) In the trainerbase resources (www.trainerbase.co.uk
3) in the UKHRD archive (www.ukhrd.com)
4) checkout the Start-up Briefings – some great stuff here: http://www.icaew.co.uk/library/index.cfm?AUB=TB2I_58040|MNXI_58040&tb5=1&CFID=543046&CFTOKEN=1506b8a3789b0d1d-9AAD706C-65BF-D32A-B0A535A592FBA6F5
If you have any particular post them here & I am sure they will be answered.
Enjoy the journey

RapidBI – Rapid Business Improvement
Business Idea Tester
Hi Natasha, I developed a Business Idea Tester that you might find useful. It gets you to think the amount of work you will do and what you charge. It will also produce all the necessary financial sheets for your business plan/bank manager. You can pick it up at http://www.titude.org.uk free of charge (anyone reading this is welcome to have a copy). Also, contact your local Business Link service to see if there are any grants and get some practical advice and support. Good luck, regards Steven
Hello
Hiya,
I know its going back sometime since you posted this but did you set up as a freelance training consultant? I am just starting to pull my plans together to go self employed too.
Any advice for a newbie?
Thanks
