Can anyone recommend a hotel, big house or other venue for our team away day?! I am tasked with arranging an overnight 2 day meeting/conference for our training department, which has teams based in Newcastle, Leeds, Hull and Birmingham. It's just before Christmas and I have a pretty tight budget! It would be for 38 people max. Help!

Event Venue
Hi Sarah,
Just a quick response but when I get time I”ll try and dig out my web links. Basically, you might want to try overseas in places like Spain, France or Eastern Eurpose. Because of low flight deals and low cost overseas venues, I have found it can be cheaper to go abroad than in the UK.

Glaramara
Hi Sarah
I’ve been here quite a few times and it would be ideal for your needs.Very reasonably priced and in a beautiful location, great staff etc etc
It is in The Lakes though so transport might be needed?

Venue for Training Conference
Hello Sarah
I would recommend you take a look at the EPIC Centre as a venue for your Training Conference, which is truly innovative location & you would have a number of hotels in and around the historic city of Lincoln close at hand.

Hi Sarah,
I know of Studley Castle which is in Warwickshire so very close to Birmingham. Have you got plans for your away day? If not, we could help you with designing a team day around your needs (dependent on what you are looking for of course).
Here is the link for Studley Castle

Here is the link with a little more info about our team development work we do (we could work with you at most venues)

A worthy venue
Hi
I had to organise a similar event for Sift Media and I found Dormy House to be a great solution to my brief.
The staff were brillaint both leading up to, during and after our event; there are a number of choices to suit all sorts of budgets; the food was exquisite; and they kept the bar open until stupid o’clock the next morning for those of us who wanted to stay up and play.
A great time was had by all.
Good luck.

Try http://www.devere.co.uk – venues such as Belton Woods is right in your geographical area. I’d suggest you browse the web first to see what might suit – they have some novel options such as a tree house! The prices do vary – and some may stretch a tight budget – but do give them a ring because often they can offer you a deal of some sort especially if a particular venue is underbooked on the dates you are considering.
Best of luck
Graham
Thanks!
Thanks to all who have replied! There’s so many places found when doing a google search, it’s great to have some recommended places to start off with! I have fired off a few requests for quotes, so please keep the suggestions coming in the mean time!
thanks all

Hotel venue for events/training
Hi Sarah
I would strongly recommend using the following events company called Naked Events:
http://www.nakedevents.co.uk
Anna is fantastic at driving rates down and has connections with many groups of hotels and may be able to get you a rate that will go accross all the venues. We now have rates as low as £30 DDR due to Anna.
We use then all the time and she has arranged for venues for groups from 10 and up to 600 people for us. The service is totally free. She is based in Leeds and I am sure will happily meet up with you.

Hotel – Away Day
Hi Sarah
Have you tried the Barcelo Hinckley Island Hotel? I used it some years ago and again recently we had a few colleagues stay there. It’s very well geared up for conferences – they may be able to do you a deal. We also got good rates by booking in advance for colleagues who just needed a stop over. May be a bit further south than you need, but thought I’d offer it anyway.

Midlands Venue
The Cotswolds Conference Centre is an excellent venue, food is great and there outdoor activities such as orienterring already set up for you to use. The staff cannot do enough for you. Accomodation is availble on site as well. A good one stop shop essentially
Not that bad to get to. Nearest train station is Moreton in Marsh and then it is about a 20 minute cab ride.
Good luck

Venue Recommendation for Away Day
Hi Sarah
I can thoroughly recommend the Barcelo in beautiful Buxton, formelry the Paramount Palace Hotel.
It would easily accommodate your number, but has a classic feel with contemporary touches.
Food and facilities excellent.
The reason I know that they look after their clients very well is that I spent a day with them last year at an open day where many happy custoemrs returned to see what else they have developed. I have to declare an interest -we provide challenging team building training and 6 Sigma problem solving, so if you need anything along those lines let me know!
Hope that helps. David Croasdale is the General Manager and would ensure a great event for you.
He’s on 01298 22001
I’m on 0844 8700 629 if I can help further.
Best regards

Away Day
Hi Sarah
Have you thought about having the group at the Walesby Forest Scout Centre in the heart of Sherwood Forest. It is easy to get there from all of the cities you mentioned. The centre can also provide you with a programme of activities. There are also some nice hotels round the area too but they are a bit pricey.
The accomodation is basic but the area makes up for that.
I have used this venue in the past for team building activities and they have always fulfilled the criteria. The have a website that you can have a look at.
Potential Robin Hoods in the making?
Hope this information helps and you can email me on conroy@lynda210.wanadoo.co.uk if you want any more information.
Kind regards
Lynda Conroy
Venue information
Hi Sarah
I find that many retreat centres have excellent accommodation in a really comfortable relaxed setting, with great home cooked food and are much cheaper and more learning-friendly than corporate/hotel type venues. They vary greatly in what they offer/how many they can accommodate etc, but a really good place to look for details of these is at http://www.places-to-be.com/index.php?gen=ven
For somewhere in the Midlands I would recommend Holland House, although I haven;t been there for some time now.
I hope this helps.
Nicki
Thanks!
Hi Catherine
Thanks for your recommendation, have had a quote from Studley which has come in well under budget. The venue looks spectacular too, so I think we are going to go for it! Think we are ok with the agenda and activities for the 2 days, but thanks very much for your help.

Sarah
