We currently have a policy where we allow good performers (must have certain performance rating in annual appraisal) to obtain an MBA degree whereby we pay max. 12,000GBP of the study costs. I am wondering if and how other companies support this type of expensive (personal) development. Is the amount we sponsor still representative? What criteria do you use?

Sorry to be a pooper as you may have calculated the cost/benefit of the MBA already, but I’d have thought the major issue is what is the return on investment to the company?
It also may be seen that if everybody achieved the criteria for the study “reward” the company could be funding 300 people to get MBAs when there are only realistically opportunities for 25 people to gain an inhouse promotion on the back of their new MBA, this would leave the company with 250 highly qualified people with no appropriate career prospects in house….they would leave giving you an ROI of -12,000×250 plus costs!
