Professional Liability Insurance – limit?

default-16x9

Hi all,

I'm just about to purchase Professional Liability Insurance as I'm in the process of setting up my own freelance training business. I'm unsure whether to opt for the one, two or five million limit. Can anyone give me some advice? I'm thinking of plumping for 2 million, put don't want to pay if 1 million would suffice in the training game??

Many thanks,

Adrian.

  1. What will your clients expect?

    Hi Adrian

When I first started as a freelancer my first, main client (a training provider) asked that I have £1m cover.  This sufficed until I was also engaged by another provider who asked for £2m cover. It was very simple (and not that expensive) process to ask my insurer to up my cover. To be honest, I haven’t ever thought about how much would be enough. I have always provided what my client demands. It may be different, naturally, if you are going to be working for direct clients. I have my insurances through the CIPD.

    All the best

  2. Professional Liability Insurance

    Hello Adrian,

I found that many "sensitive" industries such a Nuclear, Pharaceuticals required a 5 million limit from contractors on site. I think they apply the rule to all contractors even those of us who would not get anywhere near a nuclear reactor!

Cheers for that! I’m not planning on going nuclear just yet! I’m thinking 2m might be safe ground for me to start with.

    Enjoy your week.

    Ade.

  4. Thanks Jenny

Think I’ll plump for 2m, it’s in between. I’m looking at either joining CIPD or Trainerbase, some good discounts off insurance, especially with Towergate I think it is.
