I was wondering if anyone out there had a good basic short course on Managing Difficult Personalities in the Workplace? I'm putting together a short course, but am finding that I'm having to pull content out of other courses where it's been 'added in' as opposed to being a topic in its own right.
Any steers or advice would be most welcome! Thanks!

another of my non answers!
Hi Teresa
It’s not a wholse course but the video "If looks could kill" makes some very good points that "difficult personalities" are often a reflection of our own behaviours.
There are two versions, the original with Richard Griffiths and Tom Bell and a more recent version with Dawn French; personally I prefer the former as I think Dawn French overacts, but that is just my opinion.

Difficult Personalities
We run similar whole day workshops on dealing with difficult people.
I think the biggest and most important hurdle is for delegates to take responsibility for their part in a relationship (even if it’s the other person who is considered ‘difficult’). There’ll always be someone else who can handle that ‘difficult person’ well. Stephen Covey’s circles of concern/influence are a good way to get there and avoid a common objection ‘I can’t see how this would make the person do what I want them to do.’
It can be a challenging session because delegates often have a specific example in mind that they don’t always tell you about. We try to elicit their examples first on paper (less intimidating) and deal with them during the day.

Article
Somewhere on this site is a link to an article callled something like ‘Difficult people, or are they?’ Think it was by ? Kerry
The basic point behind it was that they are not difficult we just dont understand them yet. From this understanding (point of empathy) comes the opportunity for effective and appropriate communications.
Perhaps not much help but it may be a starting point for you?
If i can find the article I will post the link

How Short is short?
I’m planning to write a Power Hour session on this very topic towards the end of the year, but could bring the design forward if necessary. (Power Hours are designed to be run in as little at 60 minutes, but can be extended to up to 2 hours). The objectives would be:
If this sounds like it will meet your needs, let me know, and we’ll discuss deadlines.
