REALITY THERAPY – CHOICE THEORY

default-16x9

My training work has over the last few years has been more directed to people struggling to survive life, rather than make a profit.  (E.g. Offenders, unemployed, youth gang members .)  I do have corporate training experience and have enjoyed lots of training, and accreditations.  The result was a very blended approach to try and find solutions for people. Now however, after been introduced to Reality Therapy a year ago, its concepts more and more influences my view of events and peoples options.

My training was delivered through the Fairbridge Trust.

Any out there with Reality Therapy experiences or view points?

When I first read your post I’d never heard of Reality Therapy or Choice Theory but having done a bit of reading and research (I Googled it!) I now discover that I have been using these concepts for many years in outplacement, management coaching, business mentoring and career counselling.

Thanks for putting a name to it

  2. REALITY THERAPY – CHOICE THEORY

     Hi Russ,

I guess because you use it – it works for you?

    True?

  3. in a word…

    Yes….

it works for me….there is a culture of learned dependency in the UK (No, not universal, but quite widespread). This encourages people to believe that they have no right or responsibiblity to make certain decisions for themselves, and, most frequently, to believe that "someone ought to do something about it" without realising that the someone is often themselves!  Recognising what you realistically have control or influence over is a major part of moving towards taking responsibility, managing your own right to choose and therefore achieving a greater degree of "happiness" in life/work/relationships.

I’m not sure that this completely meshes with the Theory as written but it has worked well for people I’ve consulted with over the years, people of all ages.
