Hi,
I'm running a 2 hour upskilling workshop for 8-10 people per session. The purpose of the course is to develop sales people skills when dealing with initial rejections to the call made by the client - a brush off as it were. Does anyone have any strong engaging icebreakers that might help with this? I want to make an impact from the get-go.

Telesales energiser
Hi, here’s a very quick physical and mental energiser. Get the group to stand opposite a partner (you may have to join in to make even numbers) and tell one person in each pair to stand facing their partner with their arms outstretched. Then tell the others to push down on their partners hands when you give the signal (eg clap your hands).
Then once this is done get everyone to sit down in their seats. Ask the group how many of the ‘pushers’ encountered any resistance from their partner. Most people will push back (even if just a little) when someone pushes down on their hands, even though you didn’t tell them to.
The learning point here is that when we feel ‘pushed’ (eg a customer feels pushed by a salesperson) we naturally push back. Therefore when dealing with customer concerns and objections if we become pushy and argumentative the customer will become defensive and we end up in a lose/lose situation. This leads to a later discussion on how to work with rather than against the customer.
Have a good session,
