Becoming a Trainer

default-16x9

Hi,

I am a 33 year old who has worked in face to face customer service enviroment since I was 17. Airline, hotel, recruitment and retail.

I am currantly a retail manager for a small chain of stores and have been for 6 years. In all of my job roles I have been given the responsability of training staff. In my currant job role I am the company trainer while still being a store manager. I train on the systems and company expectations on most of the new staff through the company, customer service, selling, stocktake etc. However the training is not in my job title and my employers are not willing to pay for any professionl courses.

My passion is training but I would love to do it on a larger scale and to develop my career. I am considering taking up a night class in a CIPD level 3 in learing and development practice. While paying for it myself, which is quite costly. Can anybody advise me if this is the right qualification to take to assist me in this. There appears to be a large selection of courses to take but this appears to be the most recognised.

Thanks in advance for your assistance,

Nicola.

    Hi Nicola

Most FE colleges run Preparation for Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) in the evening and they last about 10 weeks.

Average cost is about £200 so probably much cheaper than your CIPD course and it is also widely recognised and cover much of what you need to know if you are delivering Training. You can then go on to do a Certificate in Education for another £700 ish but that takes 2 years part time.

The benefit of the 2 options above is that they allow you to work in Colleges so maybe another Career option for later?

You could also consider NVQ Assessing? http://www.nvqassessorsjobs.co.uk/assessor.html

    Good luck
