   Question like a thing possessed 

   Answer questions on Any Answers (it forces me to think of things outside my own immediate experience)

   Research and Write -I’ve discovered an enormous amount about the sex toy market recently as a result of a small contract!….and incidentally I’ve just been told that I am author of the top selling ebook on iTunes in Australia!; not connected to sex toys but to dealing with negative people)

2. How do I learn?

   Hi Martin what as simple and most excellent question which got me thinking, one way to learn. I am open to feedback especially critical feedback as this provides me with the most growth as I address the points raised. I engage with others who are interested in learning taking up as many opportunities as possible. I invest in my own development , time money and personal commitment and its quite a lot each year. This year it will be around £3,000 and several weeks of time.

3. How do you learn and develop skills

   Various aspects of my work present constant opportunity to learn when researching during design of bespoke programmes for organisations, and the huge amount of  travel I do really does expose me to diverse cultures where questions and curiosity are your best asset if you want to understand and adapt to demonstrate that understanding. Like Rus I never stop questioning, its a nightmare for my dentist when he is faced with a barrage of questions (what is…How does…why is it….) about every piece of equipment that surrounds me 🙂

   volunteer……

   I have learned a great deal about a lot of things (and several pleasant and unpleasant new skills as well) through giving time voluntarily to/for others.

7. Governorship

   To reiterate the volunteer aspect that Rus mentioned, I am a governor at two schools; a junior school and a secondary academy.  As a result in the last year I have learnt:

   HR policy and practice
   Grievance panels
   Discipline panels
   Financial management on a different scale and complexity to my work
   Project management of an IT project and conversion of a school to an academy, both outside my experience
   Leadership and management in a sector outside my experience
   Running a leadership programme for a different audience outside my experience
   Co-operative and collaborative working on a different scale
   Elearning design

   Highly recommended.
