I run a course on lateral leadership and I have been asked by a client to include a section on power games and office politics. Do you know of any materials, games or exercises I could use? Thanks in advance!

the Prisoner’s Dilemma…..
Hi Paul
though it isn’t aimed at office politics, the Prisoner’s Dilemma is a bit about power games…..
The prime issue in office politics is about securing your own (or your department’s) interests at the cost of other people in the organisation so really ‘teamwork’ should counter office politics….anything that breaks down silo mentality or the cult of personality should help.

Dodgy plane
What about the dodgy plane scenario where there isn’t enough parachutes and everyone has to justify why they should have one?
Good idea
Russ – yes I could try that.
Another good idea
The old dodgy plane (or wilting balloon) should bring out the selfish in all of us.
one of your challenges is……
…that very few people are prepared to openly admit that they play office politics………..even when it is clear that they do…….it is a Machiavellian game that is usually summed up by Kissinger’s definition of ‘diplomacy’;
"Saying ‘nice doggy’, whilst looking around for a rock"
