Learning at Work day

I'm organising our Learning at Work day event on 17 May on a shoestring (of course!). I have gathered some good ideas for indoor activities, but would really like to have an outdoor event, too. Weather permitting. Our office is in its own grounds and we do have some space that we could potentially cordon off for this. What we don't have is the budget to buy anything, other than perhaps a prize, so it really does need to be something 'homemade'. The only idea I can come up with so far is a treasure hunt that we can do both indoor and outdoor.

Any practical ideas welcome!

  1. it depends what you want to achieve……

    I can think of any number of low cost/no cost outdoor activities but they have different objectives and outcomes.

    Gissa hint as to what you’d like to get out of the session and we can give you some useful ideas.

  2. Try an outside singing workshop!

    How about singing? You don’t have to be a singer to facilitate a singing activity and it’s a great team builder and getting out of comfort zone thing. It also really allows you to see immediately strengths and weaknesses in terms of soft skills and so on. Who is out there first to try; who loves performing? Who brings the group together to try out ideas? Who helps other less confident group members? Who is showing off?

    And the review afterwards enables you, and them, to focus on these – whatever they are doing during this exercise or however they are behaving will be aligned with how they behave at work too…

  3. Outcome of training

    Hi Rus,

    We want to be fairly light-hearted and to demonstrate that learning can be fun and rewarding. If there’s a team-building element to it than that would be good, too. The main emphasis is on FUN!

    Finally settled on boring but appropriate job title – Learning & Development Adviser, abbreviated to L&D Adviser. Only problem with that is that our local hospital is known as L&D too!
