Hello all,
I was hoping you could give me some advice on buying an LMS system for our training function. Our training function is very new, only about 18 months, and my role as head of T&D has been to design, create and deliver materials for all departments across the organisation. So far I have been concentrating on the field sales team (based across the entire country) and have created an intructor led induction course. The company at the moment is about 150 strong and growing with about 30 roaming field sales guys. The problem I now have is that over the past 8 months we have had big recruitment drives resulting in large start groups. The instructor led 2 week induction has been great for this sized group but not good for smaller groups, 1 or 2 people. Going forward our recruimtent will slow down and we will only take on 1 or 2 people at a time. I feel for us it may be beneficial to transfer some of our learning materials online and move to a self taught e-learning platform coupled with one or two instructor led courses for role specific skills. Therefore I was looking into a LMS that has the following features:
- A user interface that is easy to navigate
- Capability to upload learning materials to the platform (Written and Video)
- Course catalogue for users to browse with online booking and enrolement system
- Save progress and return later functionality
- Proficiency test creation and result tracking
- Reporting
As I have no previous experience with this type of learning I was hoping for a bit of advice on the names of any systems you might be using that are working for you. Also what pricing I might be looking at for a LMS that has this capability. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,
I work as elearning instructor in an educational organization. We've been using JoomlaLMS tool for several years already. It's quite user-friendly, and seems meeting your requirements to the lms system. The license prices are affordable too (you can see them on their website as well). Good luck!
My LMS thoughts
Have you considered using an open source system such as Moodle or efront? These open source systems are free; Although the out of the box can look bare, you can then spend some time customising for your needs.
These free systems are really useful if you're new to the LMS world and give you the chance to see how an LMS would work for your business. You could then pay a consultant to help you implement it and give you training on using it. Latest Moodle has all of the things you're looking for.
