Connecting with your learners needs to begin before you even see them. One thing I've started usin which has been very well received by attendees to my workshops are short you tube clips where I introduce myself and set some prework for participants to do before the day. This serves two purposes. Firstly it gets participants thinking about the upcoming workshop, and actively involved with the learning activities. Secondly, the nature of the task I set them gives me an insight into the current knowledge/skill base of each of the participants - a secret trainers ninja tactic!
