Maybe that title isn't the best I could have chosen because rather than a name I'm more commenting about the subject line of an email....
I've just received an email inviting me to join a free webinar entitled "Leading at the Speed of Trust", a title which struck me as a bit bizarre.
I went and had a read of the email and yes....it sounds like a potentially good event; a speaker I've heard of, from a reputable organisation, the topic seems sensible and well thought out, but I just can't get my head around that title....
The Speed of Trust.....
......I don't think it is the National Trust, so it must be the emotion
Trust is something that builds through experience and exposure...it may happen faster or slower depending on the situation and the options.....when you are hanging off a cliff and a passer by offers you a hand and says "trust me" you may be a bit short of time and options and if you accept that offer and your life is saved then trust is built in short order.
But leadership in the business world?
You don't get trust from people in less than a few weeks at best, I'd say. Please argue with me and restore my faith in human nature......or agree with me and restore my faith in myself!
......But the Speed of trust.
The only time that trust moves fast is when it goes out of the window........when someone does something that shows that any trust, however deep seated or provisional, was misplaced.
Trust can take months, or even years, to build up, but it can be lost in the blink of an eye....
I'm not sure that I want to lead at the speed of trust....
I might take them up on their free webinar though, 'cos the content does sound good!

Now that explains it…..
….however, the email inviting me made no mention of a book, nor any explanation of the title….prhaps if it had I’d have been more trusting!
