Have you ever watched a sports game and thought about how similar it is to running a business? What lessons can we learn from team sports that can make us better business owners and managers? Here is my list of seven key lessons that we can take from team sports and apply to our businesses. Lesson 1: Know the name of the game. Every team player knows why they are there and the aim of the game. Lesson 2: Know how to win the game. Each team player knows precisely how their actions contribute to winning the team's objective. Lesson 3: Know the rules of the game. The game is governed by a set of rules that all players must abide by. Lesson 4: Know the score. Team members know the score at every point of play. Lesson 5: Know how I'm doing. Each team player receives accurate and timely feedback on their play. Lesson 6: Work as a team. The game is played and won or lost as a team. Lesson 7: Reward the team. The top award is bestowed upon the winning team, not individuals. Think about how you can apply these lessons from sports games to your business. Let us know what strategies you come up with.
