Not that cosmic in the end…

default-16x9

Was anyone spiritually consumed by the cosmic power of today, 11/11/11? I don't think I was. What was I doing at 11:11:11 this morning? Trying to clear my email inbox, probably. The last time this palindromic date occured there was no email, no elearning, no tablets, no computers. But there was social learning, there was informal learning, there was remote working. It just wasn't compartmentalised and labelled as such. Technologically, we've come so so far in 100 years but the tenets and principles of learning and training are the same. The tools have changed, that's all. I try to always remember that.

Hopefully medicine will make some dramatic advances in the next few years and I'll be around in 2111 to see the next 11/11/11. I will be 133 though, so may be a little worse for wear. Compact discs will be long gone. Speaking of which; having digitised more CDs than I care to name, I now must get rid of them. I happened across an ad while watching television the other night for Music Magpie. Send your unwanted CDs off, with freepost labels, get a cheque back. Well, that's the idea.

And here's another one. Kickstarter. Got a great idea? Is it a film script you want to develope, shoot and produce into a movie? Is it a solar-powered iPad? Is it a massive statue of robocop? This is crowdfunding and the hive mind of the internet at its most constructive. Ok, maybe not the last one. Have a look around, and choose something you're passionate about.

And finally, I saw an article that made me think that despite my previous assertions about technology being secondary to the fundamentals of learning, it's still pretty amazing and could truly democratise the world's knowledge base. A tablet doesn't have to cost $500. Here's one that could cost as little as $35. Wouldn't that be amazing?
