What is it?
A web application that allows you to create and share presentations from a web browser. It allows you to create presentations using desktop computers and tablets and you can share them on any platform including including mobile. The key features of slid.es are:
- A slide editor which allows you to create presentation in a web browser.
- Created presentations are saved on slid.es servers and are accessible from anywhere.
- Presentations can be viewed on any modern web browser including tablets and mobiles. Touch optimised presentations are created for touch devices.
- Presentations can be made private which means only you can see them or published for public viewing.
- Variety of themes available for designing a presentation.
- Presentation can be exported for offline use.
- Presentations can be embedded anywhere you want e.g. blogs, other websites, social networks.
- Presentations are saved as HTML and can be customised with CSS.
- History of changes made to presentations are saved which means you can revert your presentation to a previous version.
- Presentations can be saved and synced on dropbox.
I signed up for a free account to test some of the features of the app. Here is the slide editor. It looks quite simple and uncluttered with very few buttons. If you are used to PowerPoint this will feel quite minimal to you.
This interface will allow you to create a simple presentation, save it and share it through a link. Is it a PowerPoint killer? Definitely not. It will suffice for creating simple slides which look attractive but has nowhere near the kind of features that PowerPoint has. But if you like the idea of creating a simple presentation accessible on the web then this might work for you.
Here is a link to the two-slide presentation I created:

Application to Learning and Development
- Great for sharing information online in different places such as social networks
- Can definitely be used in webinars as a presentation alternative for PowerPoint
Costs
Slid.es has three costs structures as shown below with all the associated features.
Slid.es is a web application for designing and sharing presentations solely with no need for installing anything on a computer. Feature wise it is very lean but it was only launched in 2013, so expect further features to be added to it. While it is no PowerPoint in the browser, it will allow you to design and deliver basic web-based presentations.
