I wonder if anyone is able to advise me where I can go (online or in the real world) in order to learn about how to become a trainer? I have a degree in Computing, and have over 10 years experience in that field. I am currently building and editing websites.
I have been told that I 'explain things very well' when it comes to helping people out with their computers, and I know I am good with getting technical issues across to an audience who may be new to a particular subject. I'm currently thinking of ways I can get a foot in the door of the world of training, and where I could more formally learn the tools of my own trade, in training terms.
Your help is appreciated!

IPD
Try the IPD website at http://www.ipd.co.uk
http://www.iitt.org.uk
You could try the Institute for IT Training who have their own training qualification for IT Trainers
The eLearning Network
Contact the eLearning Network at http://www.elearningnetwork.orgor on 01923853530
Try local AE providers
One well-trodden route: contact your local Adult Education providers (usually via the Education Department of your local authority) and or local FE colleges. By getting paid work with them, you not only get training/teaching practice, but also access to accredited training/qualifications for yourself as an Adult Educator (eg City & Guilds), plus an instant network of others in similar situations. Good luck!
FAETC – a great course!
I’ve just completed the Further and Adult Education Certificate at Bath College – and I highly recommend it for new and established teachers and trainers.
It focuses on practical teaching ideas, but also encourages reflection on teaching and learning.
It’s technically an NVQ but can be assesed in a number of ways. Look in your local FE college for FAETC part 1 and 2 – total of a year part time.
Good luck!
Computer Training – Online!
Benjamin – I’m an absolute beginner in the field of building websites (3 months!). However,I’ve just launched one to introduce a powerful new form of Online Computer Training, using multimedia streaming technology. With your experience in this field, you may discover that this interactive online technology is a viable foot in the door to the wider world of computer training.
Hope this is of use,
Kind Regards
