Ideas
Hi Kate.
I wonder whether anyone has done research on why these mistakes are so prevalent. It strikes me that this is unlikely to be a training issue, and probably is more an attitude or culture issue in the department. That’s not to say that an intervention can’t have an impact, but the wrong intervention could easily backfire.
I think you might get the company to commission you to do some research into underlying causes and take it from there.
Accuracy Company
You might want to try The Accuracy Company, they offer a training program called Accurate Data Transfer you could contact

Could it be job / process design?
Kate
A common cause of inaccurate data entry is that the people entering the data don’t use it themselves and so don’t understand what they are doing and have no vested interest in getting it right. The solution can sometimes be to redesign the process or jobs so that data entry and use of the data coincide. Alternatively is there a way of automating data entry or caapturing the information at source, eg as a by-product of some essential operational activity?
Have you thought of scents….
The effects of essential oils were tested by a fragrance company in Japan by monitoring the efficiency ot its keyboard staff. Lavendar – there were 20% fewer mistakes, Jasmine – 33% fewer mistakes and lemon a massive 54% difference was recorded.
Could be worth a try!
