Adding in value in training – what you told us!

default-16x9

At last month's Training Solutions show, the one question TrainingZONE was asking was, what does it mean to add value? With sessions on how to get your training accredited and a panel of experts to give their views, there was no shortage of discussion around this key topic.

During the lunchtime panel debate, we asked the audience to tell us about their own experiences of adding value in training, using some nifty hand-held software from IML.

Here's what they told us:

  • 29% were training providers or trainers, 42% were Training Officers or Training Managers, and 29% were managers

  • 66% still used classroom delivery as the main method of training staff in their organisation, with delivering training online being used the most in 5% of companies, 24% using on-the-job training the most and 5% using self-study for most of their training

  • 46% of those present used improved staff performance as their key measure of 'adding value', with 16% measuring customer satisfaction and better financial returns, and 11% using staff retention and staff satisfaction as measures

  • 44% of respondents were currently being asked to demonstrate the value of their work, 25% were not being asked to do so and a further 31% thought it would become important for them to do so in the coming year.
  • Two key strands which have emerged from the 'adding value' debate over the last few months are the need to accredit training programmes, and the need to evaluate what takes place. To reflect this, TrainingZONE is offering some special deals on the CPD Business School and EvaluationZone services on the site over the coming month. If you'd like to recieve details, e-mail us your postal address and we'll send them on to you.
