Develop the personal skills needed to survive and succeed in times of turbulent change in this seminar from Learning Navigators.
Succeeding in Turbulent Times
A one-day seminar on Friday 7th June 2002, hosted by Learning Navigators in conjunction with the Sussex Branch of the CIPD. Runs 9:30am to 4:15pm, at Roffey Park Institute, Horsham, West Sussex (near Gatwick, off M23).
"It is as if we launched out from a riverside dock to cross to a landing on the opposite shore - only to discover in midstream that the landing was no longer there."
William Bridges
In times of uncertainty, we need to become more self-reliant, more flexible and more prepared to take risks and challenge our own, possibly outmoded, ways of thinking.
Through the day you will participate in a series of workshops, using a range of techniques drawn from storytelling, NLP, Appreciative Inquiry and transition management.
Succeeding in Turbulent Times focuses on the personal skills needed to survive and succeed in times of turbulent change.
During the seminar, individually and in small groups, we will explore:
Models of success
What do we mean by success? And is that meaning still valid and achievable? What does constitute success in a world in constant flux?
Values and sense of identity
Our self-image and what we value highly is key to surviving turbulence. What are the qualities that will carry us through? Do we recognise them? Do we value them?
Meaning and purpose
Knowing where we are going and why. This will involve us in finding ways to create a sense of direction when all around us is ambiguous or in a state of constant change.
Managing transitions
Recognising and working with the process of change both individually and in the wider organisation. Learning to live in Limbo - and maybe even enjoy it!
Exploring a range of techniques to help us cope
We'll cover: intuition and tacit knowledge; reading the signs of upcoming turbulence, and preparing for the effects; showing leadership; and developing self-reliance and resilience.
Participants at recent Learning Navigators events enjoyed:
- "the opportunity to look at Change from a different angle and in a real change situation"
- "very interesting way of looking at the topic; an original format combined with relevant content - a very refreshing learning event!"
- "see new learning models; positive process outcome; a different method of learning"
- "the humour and friendly personalities"
- "interactive sessions and the opportunity to share with others"
The conference will provide:
- Tools, techniques and frameworks for achieving personal success in an uncertain world
- Opportunities to network with HRD and learning/development colleagues
Seminar materials and buffet lunch are included in the delegate fee.
Costs are £95 per attendee, for the day or part day, or £180 for two colleagues from the same organisation. CIPD members benefit from a 10% saving.

About Learning Navigators
We are a network of learning and development specialists who have a passionate belief in the value of learning to organisations and individuals.
Our aim is to help organisations succeed through enriching the lives of their people, making learning and change an integral part of everyday working life.
We believe in helping our clients become independent and self-sufficient, co-developing learning strategies which they can take forward with their own resources.
We are committed to enabling organisations and individuals to take and exercise responsibility for their own learning and development.
What we do
We bring together specialists with widely differing backgrounds and insights to form a team to create unique learning strategies and interventions.
We work with the realities of organisational life - influencing the complex, semi-formal structures to expand the boundaries of effective learning within organisations.
We co-create strategies that deliver real change - on the
surface levels of developing skills, and on deeper levels, changing attitudes and cultures, and challenging the boundaries of accepted thinking.
We apply these principles to:
- developing, project managing and facilitating blended and work-based learning programmes
- creating programmes and events that integrate some of the most powerful modern approaches to organisational intervention, including self-directed learning, appreciative inquiry, NLP
- designing and delivering training courses and facilitated workshops and team "away days"
