I have been asked to complete a benchmarking report on alternative training methods in the areas of:
1.Benefits and Financial Info
2. Citizenship
3. Social Media
I basically don't know where to start so if anyone can give me some ideas on the kind of training you do in these areas, that would be great. We are working with Young People (18-24) not in eduation or employment; the project is not up and running yet so I have very little info on the content of these course. But any information at all would be greatly appreciated!

Objectives
Hi Joanne
Not really my area but basic principles are the same whatever the course…
Course Objectives and Session Objectives…
At the end of this course / session you will be able to… ie what is it you want them to learn exactly…break it down into the smallest pieces and write objectives for it. ie At the end of this session you will be able to describe how to open a savings account with a high street bank
Time
How long have you got them for? Look at each objectives above and write a lesson plan with estimated times for each one.
Process
How are you going to teach each objective? Some will lend themselves to exercises, some to a simple lecture and some to self study etc etc (now look at timings again)
Test
How are you going to check they have achieved the objectives? test, Assessment etc
Materials
What materiels do you need to support the above? Flipchart, PowerPoint, Handouts, Brochures, Literature, Video etc?
It’s not just about you and your information
Remember when planning the above that the students will want to have a quite a bit of input so always leave plenty of time for them to speak throughout what you are doing.
I’m sure others will be able to help also but hopefully that will get yiou started.
Good luck
Steve
NEETS
We run social media courses in terms of employment law and active citizenship, inter alia the same issues
We have some free resources on both

alternatives to what……and why?
Hi Joanne
1. If you need to look at alternative methods of training then the first question is what are you doing now that you seek an alternative to? for instance, if you are currently solely offering a half day face to face lecture then alternatives could range from one hour bite sized presentation to a half day interactive workshop to a webinar to tweets, a video or an assessed task.
2. The next question is why? Are you trying to change for the sake of change, save money, be more engaging, achieve learning objectives etc etc etc
Answers to these two questions may help you to get better responses (not that I’m denigrating the responses already received!)
