4. CHANGE AFOOT, SAYS ASTD REPORT

An annual report by ASTD's research arm identifies technology as one of three megatrends shaping (and shaking) the training industry. The 2000 ASTD Trends Report: Staying Ahead of the Winds of Change says the "forces of globalization, technology, and demographics are driving the development of an entirely new organizational landscape in which the pressure to perform is unrelenting.”

The authors note the continued growth of technology-delivered learning, citing recent studies by IDC and other Internet market research firms. “The challenge for the future is for employers to realize the true value of learning technologies in improving individual and organizational performance,” the report states.
