We are looking for some software which will allow us to test IT skills of graduates who are coming onto a funded scheme that we run. In order to place these graduates with a company we need an accurate picture of their IT skills. Can anyone recommend a product (hopefully inexpensive) that will do the job.

Automated Testing Software
NCC Education offer Automated IT Skills Testing Software recognised by the ECDL/lCDL Foundation and the British and Singapore Computer Societies.
This assesses a student’s proficiency of using an application by testing within the actual application. An example would be: Module 3 Word Processing would be tested in MS Word® : Module 5 Graphics would be tested in MS Powerpoint®.
The biggest advantage of testing in-application is that a student is flexible to perform the task using any method they are used to [e.g. shortcut keys, the tool bar or menus and the marking system remains the same).
The software is split into two distinct areas : test administrator and test software. The central administration area holds the questions, the results database, student information and reports. The test software can be installed on many machines and is what the students use to actually take the test. Results are fed back and stored in the administration area upon completion.
I have no information on costs but you can get more information from:
