Following in the footsteps of London Mayor, Ken Livingstone, Greg Dyke, Director-General of the BBC has told staff to stop using expensive taxis and to start using the public transport system more.
BBC employees are reported to have been using 14,000 taxis a week, and a spokesperson for the corporation said that the figure had now been cut to 6,000 and that savings of upto £4.9 million pounds could result.
