For my CIPD CTP project I've taken on the task of benchmarking the people management aspects of my organisation's new manager programme (a 2 day tutor led course) against a recognised management standard. As part of my reserach for this project I'd like to hear from other L&D practitioners on how their new management programmes are benchmarked. Hope that you can help.

benchmarking manager training
Hi Paul
This is potentially a difficult challenge as most “management standards” are output based rather than input based.
You can compare the course inputs againse the content for a competence framework.
I run a number of ‘new manager programmes’ for my clients and several lead to an ILM award. These are 8 day long programmes, leading to action learning sets for application and support back at the work place – and yet are a log way off the level 3 requirements.
Increasingly companies are now making the split decision to deliver full accredited programmes or apply for external ‘recognition’ of a programme that meets their needs.
It may be worth talking to a local FE college that offers management qualifications to explore options.
If you want to discuss my experiences of having a programme ‘recognoised’ I am happy to talk – contact me off-line.
I wish you well with your course.
