Yes, I have often wondered too? I know the US military use it, so if you really need to find out you could perhaps contact someone there.
I think there was (well a very hazy memory!!) a Jewish/Zionist organisation called the Betari or Betars, but I don’t know if they had anything to do with it. I believe they campaigned for mass immigration to Israel and were quite militaristic. It’s a possible line of enquiry.
I have an even hazier remembrance that there is a River in Brazil called the Betari – but I am sure that is not the origin!
