Beyond Appraisal

I am doing some research into the transition from Performance Appraisals right through to Performance Excellence. I am currently on the second stage focuing on Performeance Management and would like to know if anyone has any practices or processes that they are willing to share. I am particularly intereseted in how different industry sectors and public bodies undertake PM.
