Arnander is a CEO but this book isn’t aimed solely at CEOs and business managers. There is a whiff (and I mean that as a complement) of ‘Seven Habits’ about the thoughts in the book. Arnander isn’t just looking at leadership in a “CEO of a Fortune 500 company”, he is also concerned with everyday management and middle managers, entrepreneurship, and the demonstration of leadership amongst peers, friends and family.

The writing style is quite informal, and easily readable.  The layout style is deliberately dippable; there isn’t one long narrative. He sets out a whole raft of concepts (neatly there are precisely one hundred of them) and gives each one a page or three, making them quite easily digestible and actionable. He even cocks a snook at business/management-speak by allocating each one a TLA of its own so that he can easily cross reference one with another. Most of the TLAs are perfect but a couple demonstrate the tortured mind trying to fit a natural two or four word phrase into exactly three letters....I won’t tell you my favourites, read the book for yourself and identify your own! All of this makes it a quite enjoyable book to read.

Each chapter ends with some “reflection points” (a bit like Richard and Judy’s Book Club discussion points) which would actually make the book an easy and effective tool for a coach or mentor to use with their “client”.

How would I rate this book? Definitely an eight out of ten and certainly worth the investment of £13.
