This week's Budget announced two signficant developments to the New Deal programme aimed

(a) at the long term unemployed, particularly those aged over 50, and

(b) single parents with children aged over 5.

These programmes offered a range of options including work, training, and work experience. They include guarantee income levels over and beyond benefit income levels.
