Telecomms company BT have joined forces with video communications group Motion Media to trial and supply video-phones nationally. They will be used later to investigate how they will be operated in the home.
Three other contracts that have also taken place are, supplying the mapping agency Ordnance Survey with desktop video-phones at 10 locations in the UK, also Guinness, owned by Diageo, to improve global tele-conferencing and with West Lothian Council in a £1 million contract to supply round-the-clock telehealth links for elderly residents in West Lothian.
This announcement was made at the same time that the company had reported an increase in half-year losses. In the six months to June 30, the company had achieved turnover of £1.4 million, against £1.5 million at the same point last year.
The reasons given for the fall in turnover were the distraction of preparing for the company's flotation on the London Stock Exchange in May, which raised £17 million and a lack of cash to support sales and marketing activities.
Pre-tax losses for the period rose to £574,482 against £241,696 but the company predicts a move into profitability by 2002.
