Can you suggest a simple activity we can impose on party guests to get them really interacting with each other and to make them remember it as an excellent party?

We want to make a special effort at
Mentor Consultancy's fifth birthday party to get people chatting and reallly enjoying themselves. What activity could we impose on them that would reflect the inspiring training and advice we give clients on a daily basis, in communication, presentation and media handling.

A good one for this type of event is ‘cocktail bingo’. Each person has a sheet with 12-15 boxes on it. In each box is a statement (eg has been a mentor, hates role-plays, can teach me a dance step, was at our first birthday party, admits to having made a great comic blunder, and so on). The challenge is to mix with others at the party and collect one name in each box, but you can only use each name once. In other words they have to chat with at least 12-15 people and probably a lot more. The first to complete their sheet gets a prize (and perhaps has to read out their favourite entry).
If you do use this I hope it goes well – do let me know.

    PS Happy 5th Birthday!

  2. Famous pairs
This simple getting to know you game is fun and encourages people to talk and mix with people outside their cliques and comfort zones.

On the back of people’s name badges place the name of one half of a famous pair e.g. ‘Laurel’. This person then has to go around the room finding their other half (In this acse ‘Hardy’). The organisers can then get the pairs to sit together for dinner etc.
