I work for a large organisation spread globally. We have an LMS to manage internal courses, but no system to publish the existence of external courses. E.g. someone becomes aware of a course offered by an external organisation, there is no mechanism for that person to notify the rest of the organisation.
At present the few diligently minded are simply posting the notification to the company’s general discussion board, however, this means that within a few hours/days it disappears from the main display as other posts take precedence.
I would like to create a function that would allow anyone to post information about an external course in a central location. Staff can visit the location and see what’s on offer, this might be a calendar or some other tool.
Once the course is published to the location, I would like to incorporate a twitter notification, RSS feed or auto email notification to subscribers that makes them aware of the newly posted offering.
People making the postings would be your average Joe Blow and may not have the tech savvy to do anything too technical. We don’t have the manpower for someone to be maintaining a complicated system. It needs to be simple enough for the non-technical to use, sophisticated enough to handle multiple entries and categories and robust enough that it requires little or no maintenance.
Does anyone know of something that might do these things, I have some ideas around shared calendars, but are not keen as they can be cumbersome and difficult to maintain, the organisation has a SharePoint facility.
