CIPD Harrogate – show preview

default-16x9

This year's CIPD annual conference and exhibition takes place in Harrogate from Wednesday 23 to Friday 25 October. Arguably the biggest HR show in the UK, this annual event brings together a mixture of high-profile conference speakers from the world of business and academia, together with around 100 exihbitors displaying in the Harrogate International Centre's five main halls, many showcasing new products and services.

CIPD 2000 Harrogate - TrainingZONE standAmong those unveiling new wares at the exhibition will be Ei (UK), who are launching a new CD-Rom guide to emotional intelligence, Management Pocketbooks, who've produced new titles on problem-solving, resolving conflict and e-learning, Reg Athwal Worldwide, who are launching new talent recruitment workshops, new exhibitors Gael, who are displaying their mind mapping software, Alphabet, with a new car benefit scheme, and Criterion Partnership, who'll be launching a new self-development package of modules.

Alongside, there's a detailed programme of conference seminars and workshops. There's too much to list here, but Gary Hamel, Visiting Professor, London Business School and Chairman of Strategos will be giving the opening keynote address on 'Thinking Like a Revolutionary' and Jonas Ridderstrale and Kjell Nordstrom from the Stokholm School of Economics will be rounding things off with a session on managing talent 'delivering funky business'. More details of the speakers can be found at http://www.cipd.co.uk/annualconference/ , you can also read our special preview features with Tony Hope, visiting Professor of Accounting, INSEAD and Manchester Business School and Deepak Chopra, author and founder of the Chopra Centre.

The event also features a 'fringe' programme of sessions hosted in venues around Harrogate on Wednesday and Thursday - hosted by a range of exhibitors, sessions cover everything from 'bridging the UK skills gap' to 'retaining talented people after change'.

Never let it be said that the CIPD conference organisers don't think of everything - for those attending over the three days, they've also laid on a range of social activities to keep everyone entertained. As well as the notorious evening in Carringtons Nightclub, there's a Motown, Soul and Dance Spectacular, and, for those who like their entertainment more refined, a wine tasting in Leeds and York.

And for those who find it all a bit too much, there'll be on-site massage therapists available throughout the conference.
