‘Code Red’ Worm

default-16x9

On July 19th over 250,000 systems were infected with the Code Red Programme. Since then the virus has more or less been dormant. However it has emerged the virus is due to strike back with extra venom tonight at 00:00 GMT. The FBI, the Whitehouse and Microsoft have issued warnings against this virulent programme. The awoken virus is said to have taken on a new strain, which potentially, can bring the Internet to a halt.
Technically Code Red is not a virus, as it does not need the user to do anything to activate it. It simply spreads across networks infecting machines along the way.
Home users with Windows 95, 98, and ME are not vulnerable to the programme. Also all non-Microsoft applications will not be at risk.
Experts are urging users to visit http://www.microsoft.com to download a porgramme that will protect web servers before the end of today.
