Communication Exercises

default-16x9

Hi Guys

Does anyone have a copy of the printers cup? it is an exercise that I used to use in communication and I appear to have lost it!

It's a bit like origami. I talk the learner through a set of instructions and they have to follow them, without looking at others work and not being allowed to ask any questions. Of yours they can't manage it and we then go on to do it again, this time with questions and help from each other - they succeed!

If you have this or other exercises that are similar I would really love you to send me a copy.

Thanks in anticipation

Take care all
Ginny Roberts

  1. Arian Associates Ltd
We use a very simple excercise similar in the fact that it is carried out without any feedback.

We call it ‘WHO THINKS THEY ARE A GOOD COMMUNICATOR ?’

email us at info@arian-associates.co.uk and we will be happy to reply with a copy attached.

  2. Printer’s box
I know it as the Printer’s box! Before showing how to make one, ask participants to use a sheet of A4 to make something capable of holding a cup of water for 1 minute. Some strange things are made – few can hold liquid! Then give them a new sheet and talk them through the stages of making the printers box, which will hold water for 1 min (such boxes were used in printing to hold ink without discoulouring it).
The difference between the ‘have a go’ effort and the instructed effort can lead into training on coaching style, Kolb learning cycle, learning styles etc etc.

  3. Download printer’s box
A number of people contacted me asking for instructions for making & using the printer’s box so I’ve put some on the internet: go to http://www.dickbarton.co.uk, click on free downloads and you’ll find it there.
