I am currently designing a two day course for managers around effective communication. Some time ago I came across a questionnaire which yielded results as four types - expresser/driver/relater/analyser. Does anyone know more about this? I need to find the author to seek permission to use it and get hold of a copy. Failing that, can anyone recommend a useful (preferably free or minimal cost) instrument/questionnaire that would be useful.
Thanks for your help.

I think the one you are after can be found at:
http://www.drbackman.com/communication-styles.htm
Alternatively, if you want to buy professional booklet-style questionnaires that you can use on-course or pre-course, you might want to take a look at the Communication Style Inventories available from http://www.mlruk.com

Also try the Peter Honey website, they supply fantastic diagnostic tools and questionnaires, at very reasonable prices.
