Community Roundup – May

default-16x9

Well, we’ve had a few days of sun this May - hopefully enough so that you managed to make the most of the two bank holidays! Even with all that time off, we’ve been seeing lots of great content springing up all over the site. Thanks to everyone who asked a question, answered a poll, left a comment or posted a blog this month :-)

May is Leadership Month on TrainingZone and we’re carrying on the theme in this latest community roundup, starting with the poll results. We asked you to spill the beans and let us know if you felt your manager was a good leader or not. It’s proven to be a divisive topic, with the “no” camp just edging out ahead, with 53% of the votes. For those of you who aren’t satisfied with the people in charge, what is it that you’d like to see them do in order to turn things around?

TZ blogger robinhoyle took a closer look at what the problem may be with that remaining 47% of managers and, indeed, what we mean by “leadership”. Take a look for some excellent, thought-provoking points.

Keeping leadership in mind, the next blog post I wanted to highlight is from new blogger DBishop, who takes us through what it takes to be a real leader with the help of some light opera (I’m a sucker for a bit of Gilbert & Sullivan!).

Being a leader isn’t all rousing speeches and jaunty tunes, however. hj_townsend provides a practical post on a subject that’s on the mind of anyone in charge of their own team - budgeting. Her tips on providing effective training without breaking the bank are perfect for helping people grow whilst keeping the focus on making every investment count.

It’s been great seeing so many bloggers picking up the month’s theme. June brings a new topic - you’ll hear more from Jon on that but here’s a quick sneak peek: we’ll be focusing on the use of mobile apps and mobile learning systems. If you’re curious about making greater use of mobile devices in training or want to share your thoughts, let us know!

Any Answers has been busy this month as well. Here are some of the highlights:

See you again next month. As always, if you have any questions, ideas or suggestions, be sure to let us know!
