I have just come across a policy which does not pay Company sick pay for absence during notice periods. Just wondered if anyone else had come across this and how prevalent it might be.

Sick pay in notice period
Hi Gail
Never come across that one and sounds unusual in my experience. Perhaps the company had a problem at one time with this issue and adjusted the policy to address it.

Thank you
Steve – thank you for your comments. I suspect you are right and I can see the advantages of it. Judging by the number of hits the question has had, but the lack of response I suspect it is not commonly used.

It’s pretty common in financial services – even if it’s not necessarily implemented.
ERA Section 88
You need to be aware that according to the above you are required to pay full pay during the notice period if the employee is off sick. Howver, this is only where the contractual notice period does not exceed the statutory notice period by more than 1 week.
