Compaq CEO predicts bleak future for IT spending

default-16x9

Speakers at the IDC European IT Forum in Monaco this week were vague when discussing the future of the IT Industry. On the whole speakers agreed that the future might still be bright however Michael Capellas CEO for Compaq disagreed. “I am not a great believer that stable growth is going to happen. I think the pattern of spiking up and down is one that’s going to be with us for a while”. He did, however, state that there will be growth in some areas such as IT services and it is this sector that Compaq will be focusing on. Capellas believes that PC demand will shift towards users demanding more sophisticated hardware and complete packages. The IDC issued a forecast for IT spending at around 10% between 2002 and 2005. This figure was adjusted due to last weeks attack on the U.S.
