Council Tax & Housing Benefit

default-16x9

Happy Monday Peeps!

I've been tasked with putting together some training modules on Council Tax Essential Knowledge and Housing Benefit Essential Knowledge.

Has anyone had any experience of delivering these subjects before?

I'm trying to find some good sources of information and a few ideas to make such dry subjects a little more interactive/interesting.

Many thanks in advance!

James

  1. Dry Subjects

    Hi James

I'm always a little puzzled by the term "dry subjects" There are very few subjects that aren't boring when you really think about it so the trainers job is to bring "stuff" to life.

My first starting point for buy in to any subject is the human consequences of not learning it.

Council Tax – Guessing there are a lot of unhappy stakeholders when this goes wrong?

    Housing Benefit – As above.

Create an avatar(s) of typical people affected by the rules and walk them through the process. (old, young, unemployed, single parents etc etc) Give them names, Mrs Thomas, Bob the Builder,

This gives the subject a human element rather than being regulations. The affect these have is much more engaging than the process itself.

  2. the Citizens Advice Bureau….

runs courses in these topics so they are a good source of data and materials

How about making a whiteboard animation or two to add variety to the modules?
